    ICT Technician Interview

Hi, I have my first ever ICT Technician interview next week at a comprehensive school. It starts off with a task, followed by an interview in front of a panel. What I would like to know, has anyone got any ideas on what questions I should ask the panel at the end of the interview? Also, does anyone have any idea of what the task may be?
    Thanks, Mike.

Have a search and you will find quite a few similar topics packed with info. If you look at the bottom of the screen on similar posts you will find a few to start with.

Again i would recommend you have a look at other threads on the forum, this question does pop up quite regular so you should have no problem finding an answer(s) to your question.

You tend to get questions such as:

    - what attracted you to this post? (not a popular one though tbh)
    - what have you done that you are pleased with
    - what have you done that your not so pleased with
    - how would you prioritize certain jobs i.e. password change, projector or pc not working
    - what kind of skills do you have in *certain areas* (depends on what is in the job description)

there are some more, but it is late and my brain is not working lol

    James.

When i went for technician interview few years ago the task was pretty straight forward, as was the ones we did for people interviewing at our school last year. It includes things like network card being disabled or unpluged, Floppy cable in wrong way round, Hard disks not in boot order, memory faulty or dislodged, simple stuff that would stop a PC from working. If you know your way around a computer if will all be easy stuff to you

    Re: ICT Technician Interview

As a Network Manager, one thing I am always looking for from a Technician is that they have an understanding, or at least a vague idea of how networks in schools and colleges are different from business networks. In an educational environment, you are often faced with many, many 'self interest' groups and teachers, by their very natures can often be 'interesting to deal with. You need to be even more patient than normal, and at the same time confident in your abilities. Schools often have many constraints (Ministry of Education, Budgets etc.) that make them fundamentally different than business networks. As with all networks though, your customers (Teachers, Admin Staff and Students) are the most important thing. Hope this helps a little.

    * As a side note mods you might want to move this to Educational IT Jobs as it is not really classroom management.

    Thanks, Mike.
Where do you see the school (in terms of ICT or whatever) being in 3 years?
    - An opportunity to make the interview panel think/open up about their vision instead of just bombarding you with difficult questions! ;-) Do they have an idea about where things are heading?

I am sure there are others but my brain is feeling slightly dead!

I can't remember much about the task or the questions I asked, mainly because of the drink and drugs taking effect by then........
