    SMARTboard software v10 on CC4

OK, so two weeks into our CC4 network and I'm still trying to get the smartboard software built as a package.
I like how the RM support site still has very little in terms of support for CC4, most articles relate to CC3.

I build a clean machine, run the appwiz and start about installing the notebook software, test it all and run appwiz again (i know its just wininstall) and it says its building. i get the package listed in RMMC but when i assign it comes up with an error that it cant.
i've tried on three occasions now to build this package, first time it didnt list in the package list, second time it failed to even build the package, and now it lists but wont deploy.
has anyone had any luck doing this on cc4?

Care you able to just take an MSI and suck it in as a package? If so I would ignore the build process and use SMARTs admin tool to generate the MSI and MST and use that.

As TechMonkey said, the Smart Admin tool is very user friendly an enables you to customise the Smartboard 10 software MSI for your own purposes.

If you are rolling this out as an upgrade to 9, we found that when it updates the Smartboard drivers, some of the older boards had to have their firmware upgraded or they would need to be re-calibrated every 15 minutes. The firmware upgrade solved this though.

this will be a new install.
so with the admin tool, i install it, search for the unmodified msi on the cd, tell it what i want doing, it then creates an mst. cc4 only seems to be able to import msi not mst, so what do i need to do then to make the modified msi installer?

I have never dealt with CC4, or CC3, or any CC for that matter so you will have to forgive me if this isn't possible.

I know that when assigning an MSI using basic scripting there is something you can put on the end the command such as (server\packages\nameofpackage.msi /mst: server\packages\nameofmstfile.mst)

Something like that anyway. Can you do this with CC4 or is it literally just a case of selecting the MSI that you want to use with no modifications?

    EDIT to previous post:

    The command is /T nameofmstfile.mst

Yep it is that simple. On CC3 this string "WITRANSFORM=FILE.mst" is added to the package ini file (where FILE is your MST filename). Not sure if there is a similar mechanism for CC4.

Well I've learnt something about RM today then :-)

    First time for everything

I had assumed it would be that simple, why would they remove this functionality and only allow you to install "standard" msi's anyway!

TechMonkey: thanks for that bit of info. The only thing is on occasion I've had it import into the \rmpackages\ folder and there are no .ini files or .msi files. Not quite sure what happened to them, whether it imports that elsewhere (only had CC4 for two weeks so haven't a clue how it all works properly!)
Have just rebuilt a clean machine so will give it a go, thanks for that!

just as an update. created the msi from the one on the cd, yet it wasn't in /rmpackages/. called rm and they said its now in rmmanage/repoman/{guid} so you have to search for it. he also said if i'm looking to change the ini file, its now in the security tab of the package in the RMMC, not in an ini file.
so going to try that and see

just as another update, after countless emails back and forth to rm support, they have pointed me to a tech article relating to cc3 which tells me to edit the package.ini as TechMonkey suggested. Unfortunately package.ini doesn't exist. I was also told in the package overview i could double click the package and enter the details there, but under transform files, i am unable to enter anything.
i find it absolutely unbelievable that so little is known about a product yet it is widely available for any school to purchase.

part of one support call told me that the packages were moved out of rmpackages to the repoman folder where each package is assigned a guid, this was (they say) to improve security so people couldn't just find a package and install it. yet how do they tell me to find the package i want. just search for the msi in the repoman folder.
so basically thats all staff have to do as well, so security isn't the reason, its change for changes sake. if anything it makes an admins job harder. with proper security in place it wouldnt matter if a user could see package names, you could stop them running it, now they cant see names, neither can i, and i have to hunt about just to find stuff!

Not wanting to turn this into an RM or Not RM thread but things like this are making it less likely we will stick with them. Always been relatively happy with RM as the tools helped me run and manage the network. Random changes like this aren't helpful so it loses its value.

    errm

With my package (not tested yet) imported msi file

    - Click Packages & Products
    - File - Import Package
    - Select cc3 option
    - Select all files from file type select the msi
    - Edit package properties and under transform files put in your mst file

Over cc4 tech docs will give you a pm as i can see lot so want to check your access is setup correct.
