Hi there,
Not sure what forum to post this in, but saw other helpdesk based posts here so thought I would try here.
Can anyone recommend a free (or <£100) helpdesk style package that can be used by the caretaker to receive requests and respond to them.
I have tried a few, but the school would like one where the user just puts in their email address and clicks submit without the need to logon every time.
For ICT requests we use Spiceworks which has been working fine for over a year, however we only have one server so can't install it elsewhere. The Business Manager wasn't happy having another PC on 24/7 just for this!
Of course you may be asking isn't this a bit much for a primary school? Well after being able to see all my ICT requests via Spiceworks reports, they want to see what the caretaker is doing! Stasi School!
Thanks, Dan

I think they both intergrate (or at least otrs) into AD so they can just login as there Windows Accounts.

Can't you carry on using Spiceworks for this but just assign his jobs to him and your jobs to you. Then any reports you run off can be separated into IT and Site jobs.

SHarepoint would be a good one - used it in my last school for this eact thing, and was running our intranet.
As it was all ad-linked it didn't require a login at all.

I can't really see the point using anything else but SW when it appears it already does what the OP wants and is working already.
I mean sharepoint just for this?!
SW can integrate with AD or not, so you can use network login or email address each time, choice is yours. You can have multiple users of SW so you can pickup you tickets that relate to you.
We bodged a copy of Liberium - and that seems to work.

I'm not really suggesting sharepoint JUST for this.
But as it can do a hell of alot more it'd be something useful for the OP into look into anyway, especially as it sounds as if their may be more call for this kind of thing as IT becomes more integral for the school..
To keep it simple for our caretakers we just setup a "contact us" webpage and all jobs get e-mailed to a "Premises Manager" account where both caretakers can see what jobs are to be done that day / week / month etc.
Yes, they can't update tickets etc, but at least staff can inform the caretakers of job requests rather just e-mailing them individually.
