    BGInfo

    Hi

    Im trying to implement BGinfo and tried to do it by running it from a shared. This worked for half the students when logging in but the other half it didn't. Also some students had a different name on the screen to what it says on the start menu.

    Im now trying to Run BGInfo by copying the files into crogram files\BGinfo and a login script GPO which is:
    @ECHO OFF
    REM * Sets Background desktop *

    C:\Program Files\bginfo\bginfo.exe /iq "C:\Program Files\bginfo\student.bgi" /timer:0 /nolicprompt

    But this doesn't seem to work. Am i doing anything really stupid?

    Thanks

    This is what I use:

    Code:
    @ECHO OFF
    net time \\SERVERNAME /set /yes
    REM * Sets Background desktop *
    if exist %systemroot%\bginfo.exe goto tools
    copy \\SERVERNAME\netlogon\tools\BGINFO\BGINFO.EXE %SYSTEMROOT% /Y
    :tools
    %SYSTEMROOT%\bginfo.exe /i"\\SERVERNAME\netlogon\tools\bginfo\CURRIClogon.bgi" /timer:0

    REM * Sets Background desktop *
    %SYSTEMROOT%\bginfo.exe /i"\\SERVERNAME\netlogon\tools\bginfo\logoff.bgi" /timer:0

    Thanks Michael

    so will i have to copy the BGinfo files to the netlogon folder? And the then when this script is run it will copy it to the local machine, run the bginfo.exe and the finally apply the .bgi settings from the Netlogon folder of the server?

    Initally i done it so that it ran completely from the server but it caused problems.

    Thanks

    Yes to all questions. There's no reason it cannot be stored in the netlogon share. It's a very tiny application.

    Have you selected the option to store the background in the users temp folder, instead of the default of c:\windows? These settings are on the Bitmap menu, under Location.

    I use BGInfo from the netlogon share. The problem you might have been experiencing with the wallpaper not changing might be because the users don't have access to change the file that BGInfo attempts to change. The file is something like C:\windows\bginfo.bmp. Users need to have access to read and write to this file.

    That guys. Thats where i was going wrong. The location of the bmp was on a network share hence everyone was trying to use the same file.

    This script works great! I have it setup to run as a startup script in GPO for server and it does not work. Something is blocking it on my MS 2003 server. I can run the script from the DC manually and it works fine. Any ideas?
