Huge network, low budget, need for live monitoring/remote control..
Hi
Currently we're using Ranger Remote control to live monitor our network, but we're looking into alternative software.
Presently, we're using Ranger to watch/control machines, and to shut down at the end of the day...
The obvious alternative so far is the excellent Lanview together with slideshow, we hope! (we're yet to try slideshow), our only concern being the size of our network.
At present we've got 150 Ranger licenses, we're getting quote from NSS and Ranger for a 500 license deal, although long term we may be looking at closer to 800.
We've got a vast network and we're not sure how Lanview/Slideshow will cope on such a large scale.
Anyone used LV/SS on this sort of size?, any issues?

5th June 2008, 03:48 PM #2 ABtutor is good and you pay per viewer rather then clients so you could install it everywhere but pay just for the console for yourself.
They used to offer free upgrades for life but they then changed their mind and told customers who paid under that premise to pay or stay at the old version which is the only big negative I have with them.

5th June 2008, 04:18 PM #3 I think the only limit to how well any of these will work is bandwidth. LV is VNC based so in theory you can change the settings to reduce bandwith etc. Other than that I cant really forsee any other problems that you might encounter assuming all other gear is up to the task?

A Second vote for ABTutor Control here, its fairly easy to use and you can see what the students are running minimised by hovering over the icons without actually having to view thier screens, better still you can close it down without them realising at time, just hear them complain a few minutes later.
