As some staff tend to fiddle and pick up stations in other rooms (which confuses the next staff member) i'd like to prevent this from happening. I've notice that this can be set by using the NSS .adm files to make the tutor browse for only PC's starting with a similar letter/name.
Does anyone use these or do you have a better way?
Cheers.

RRC
We do this using RRC. We've even had it running on thin-client.
What do you need to know?

5th February 2008, 07:29 PM #3 As far as i can tell the setting is a user policy do you need to use loopback processing to get it to apply different settings in different rooms or do you use some sort of security filtering?
I have all computers in each room in a seperate OU.
Cheers.

I use a combination of things set up before I had the .ADM files (which are pretty handy
)
I use different ports for each of the rooms - that way, Students can't use Protable Net Support Tutor to control the room in the absence of a teacher (because they're non-standard)
That also prevents broadcast shows affecting other rooms and all sorts of other things.
I use the Name thingy as well so that in theory they can only get to the room they're in.
I also previously used the Known Lists, but for some reason, they broke a few times and I gave up.
The current setup of ports & connecting by Hostname is working really well for me/us at the moment...
I think there are ways other than these 3 too...

5th February 2008, 07:44 PM #5 Did you need to set that manualy on each tutor station?
As we use Ranger Remote (a rebadged NSS) i'm not familiar with Portable Net Support Tutor where can students get that?

In the Program Directory is the only place I can remember it - It was on the netsupport.com website, which is where the kids got it from, but I can't remember where it is.
The tutor stations here tend to be per-machine settings as opposed to per-user, so I've only configured it the once - you can set it up in the same way to use profiles for roaming profiles etc... but not sure how.

6th February 2008, 09:28 AM #7 Ok i'll take a look today i'm going to see if i can set different settings in each room so i'll probably need to use group policy loopback in each room.
Anyone know if that will work?
I'll be letting you know anyway no doubt :-)

For Info, our name, NetSupport has no space in it. I only mention it as Google would tell me about questions with 'NetSupport' in it but not 'Net Support'
Just allows me to provide a better service
