    Re: IT Team sizes?

I've found that older kit requires more support the newer our kit gets the less hands on support is required, that doesn't mean the work load drops something new always takes up the slack.

    Re: IT Team sizes?

We have, at the moment, arount 1500 students, approximately 350 xp(cc3) workstations, 150+ laptops, and all the other bits and bobs we like to buy.

in our team we have the Gaffer (NM), 1 x head technician, 3 x f/t techies, 1 x p/t techie, and a helpdesk person.

our music and media dapartments have a technician each to look after their pc's and equipment.

    Re: IT Team sizes?

So from the Becta link above they seem to recommend at a minimum 1 Tec per 150 PC's, that's about where we are but a few here look understaffed. As they point out it's difficult to generalise though.

A VOIP phone system (asterisk based) ooh i might have to pick your brains about that, where is a good place to post a question about asterisk?

The key thing in that BECTA report is the 'support desk' - which indicates that as well as the technicians, there should be a first line of support staff member to deal with the majority of requests. This would indicate the introduction of a tiered support system in schools, something that is definitely needed!

On the asterisk point, I just posted in the *nix forum, as it is a *nix app.

Interesting results, I feel bad that some of you are coping on your own!

@localzuk - good man, lots of responsibility there! I would like to run a system on my own, would be an exciting challenge!
