Good morning,
We have randomly started encountering a problem whenever a student or staff user trys to access the BBC site from a workstation with Ranger installed. Basically as soon as it loads it closes the page as if it is an illegal application.
We haven't changed any settings in Ranger and yet this has just randomly started happening and it's puzzling me.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dan

is most likely to be a title check i'd guess?.

Doesn't Ranger have logs that show what the violation is?

We've had the same start recently here and ranger isn't meant to do anything to webpages

When ranger shuts down IE have a look at the 'current activity log' and that will probably have a security violation on. listed in the oter data section will be the reason IE was shut down. Have to agree it will probably be a title check!

As above, look at status log on the LAN Ranger server while you get someone to create the error. You should see the log entries.
Failing that, remove the Ranger client just to be sure thats the cause.

Ok, after trying a number of things we have now figured out that if you log in as an administrator and open the page it will first close the website like it does for anyone else but then if you relaunch IE and go back to the bbc site it works, then if you log off and login as a student it works fine... I'm guessing that it's doing something in the background which requires the user logged on to have local admin rights, does that sound about right? Has anyone else got any ideas about this?
Thanks
Dan

Are you using IE7 ? If so try without add-ins , I found the realpayer g2 plugin caused IE to crash frequently especially on the bbc site.

Did anyone ever find a resolution to this problem. We have IE6 here and have had reports of the BBC site crashing despite recently updating to Flash 9. On testing, logged in as admin, it will only crash the first time if at all and then loads fine after that, which makes it a nightmare to troubleshoot. When it crashes it will get roughly a third of the way through loading the page (no graphics on the page) and then brings up the common un-useful debug message.

You seem to need exactly the right combination of flash, shockwave, flying pigs and blue moon phase to ensure it doesn't crash.
We've been on Flash 9.0.124.0 and Shockwave 10.3.0.24 in IE7 and XP SP2 for soe time and it's been behaving. I attempted to change versions of shockwave during the Christmas holiday, but BBC wouldn't play, so I went back!

This seems to be the issues with BBC sites. Uninstall all adobe plugins and clear out any reg entries and then reinstall latest versions. Do all whilst hopping on one leg backwards in a counter-clockwise direction

1st February 2009, 06:53 PM #13 Yep the Beeb site can be a bit flakey. We recently trialed IE8 and when the machine accessed the Beeb site the web service on our proxy died wtih the result internet was off for all the school!
Back to the Ranger issue it does sound like a title check though why its happening for staff is strange unless you've chosen to track staff usage as well.
As others have said try removing the Ranger client and see if the issue still exists and the Ranger log should give further clues.
We're using IE7 and to best of my knowledege (read no one has complained) BBC site works OK. Though sometimes we have issues with video on the site.
Recently at home the BBC site has been really sloooooooow.
