A question for everyone especially AJKOK1 & rdhawkins
In the main computer rooms every time any user logs on these computers Windows XP wants to install a graphics driver. We have found out that it is ranger causing the problems. So we install the drivers found in the Program Files > Ranger directory and they are installed, until the computer is rebooted then it asks for them again.
Its getting a bit of a pain, so any advice would be appreciative
Thanks

try installing as local admin user we have some workstations that ask for a printer driver. we are using ranger 5.8

Tried that but the problem still persists.

how do you know its ranger! have you uninstalled ranger and logged in has pupil user etc

Well we know its ranger because of the following reasons:
1. The correct driver is found in the ranger directory.
2. The problem only starts happening when ranger is installed
3. The problem stops when we uninstall ranger.

Why is there a driver in the Ranger directory?
why are the drivers for the graphics card in the ranger folder!!!. get them off the vendors website and see what happens but you shouldn't have any drivers for hardware in the ranger folder.
have you looked at www.rangersuite.com knowledge base
thanks

They are not the graphics card drivers, it is something that ranger has installed a virtual display device or something. That is why it is in the ranger directory. The graphic card drivers aren’t in the ranger directory.
The graphics cards are fine, its ranger that’s the problem.

Do you have Ranger Remote Control/NSM installed?
AFAIR NSM installs a video driver, GDIHOOK or something similar, it could be this that is causing it?
Its not something I've heard of before, what is the name of the file/driver?Originally Posted by FN-Greatermanchester

Problem solved!
After a long chat with Netsupport live chat, it was the Video Hook causing a problem. When you install Ranger/Netsupport it installs a virtual video device this allows you to see the client machines from the control machine.
Thanks Netpport!

Why Use Ranger In The First Place... 8)

Was already purchased before any of us started.

Ranger is another network tool/software I have come across and think "oh god, what is this all about..."
The software is bloatware and as soon as I uninstalled it from the school server (at one of my schools) the performance difference was incredible. Unfortunately the clients in the network were all inconsistent and absolutely appalling! They were re-imaged and now everything works fine using Active Directory.
All the staff are now delighted because they can concentrate teaching ICT and no longer have problems locating their files and locating applications. The savings the school will make in the next few years will go into the thousands!

This one is ranger remote control the same as netsupport.
