I'm looking at a better solution to our boarders access to the network and wanted some advice about Network Access Control.
I got a quote for something from Bradford Networks for a great product which talked to your switched and VLAN'd on the go but the quote was £20k which I ain't paying.
I noticed Sophos (boo) is doing one and Symantec has one, problem is I don;t want to have to buy licenses for each boarders, I would prefer to let them chose their own AV as long as its up to date.
Anyone using a Network Access Control?

You could take a look into PacketFence (http://www.packetfence.org/) - a couple of members use this.

Re: Network Access Control Solutions
Until very recently Bradford Networks was only sold through one company in the UK, the price often reflected this exclusive agreement as quite simply there was no where else to buy it. The supply chain has opened up a bit now, if you would like an alternative quote for comparison purposes please let me know.
I don't want my first post to be a pitch, so I will leave it with you.

I'm still trying to ever get the time to look into packet fence. It sounds like the exact thing we need here.
Does anybody use the out-of-the-box VMware version?

You don't have to use Sophos AV with Sophos NAC, I had them in for a demo a few weeks ago. The Sophos setup looks very good (admittedly it's all I've seen though!), just a bit more than we can afford right now!

We have vaguely thought about adding packetfence to SchoolGuardian - we're probably not gonna ever do a full NAC system; there's enough good ones out there already. If anyone would find this useful do message me, and i'll take note
