Hi all,
Horid few days.
Spoke to Viglen/Classlink about the removal of Classlink v7 about a month ago, they said no problem, remove from workstation via add or remove programs and then do the same on the Server.
Needless to say I went ahead and followed their instructions. I was horified to find out
REMOVING CLASSLINK V9 OR OLDER FROM YOUR SERVER WILL DELETE ALL USER AND COMPUTER ACCOUNTS IN ACTIVE DIRECTORY
I got straight on the phone and they denied saying that, the instructions they gave me were for newer versions and didnt apply to our version.
What really gets me, was the uninstall took 10seconds, not one mention it would delete all the Active Directory data.
Fuming.

2nd November 2012, 12:39 AM #3 I guess I came off quite lucky then...
A few months ago, I removed Classlink v7 from our federated Primary. Halfway through the uninstall, it threw up an error; clicked OK though and it still seemed to uninstall okay. About a week later I'd discovered a couple of Group policies and a bunch of scripts (which we were still using) were missing; assumed removed by the Classlink uninstall, I thought "no problem, i'll just restore these from a backup".
I think if it hadn't been for that error during uninstall, I really dread to think about what the situation might have been - especially as their backups at the time weren't backing up System State data.
And no, having a backup didn't cross my mind at the time. Lucky really.

That's awful! thanks for the tips. At some point we're considering moving to Viglen solutions from RM but after your experience will avoid

19th November 2012, 08:23 AM #9 I would stay clear of Viglen all togeather, I had two years of hell and the support was rubbish. Format c: started again now running vanilla network and its never gone down in over two years.
