    HP 5406 doesn't accept IP Route

    HI

    I'm trying to add a static route on a hp 5406 Core Switch as default route to my firewall, to give the Vlan's Access to the internet.

    I tried it with "ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.99.254", i don't get a error message but when i show my routes, the 0.0.0.0 route isn't present.

    So, it seems that the switch doesn't accept the route? But why?

    This may sound daft, but I have had this problem, and iirc you have to remove the existing route before adding the new one so:

    login to switch through telnet (or your preferred option)

    CONFIG
    to enter configuration mode

    DISPLAY IP ROUTE
    to show current routing table. top line should be the default route

    NO IP ROUTE 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 {Current Route IP)
    to remove existing route

    IP ROUTE 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 {IP OF ROUTER}
    to add new route

    WRITE MEMORY
    to save the changed configuration from running (memory) to boot flash

    You seem to have the default route in your config as ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.99.254, as well as a ip default-gateway 10.10.99.254 which might confuse things. When I was first setting up my 5412ZL I found I had to reboot the switch to get a couple of things working correctly. Silly, but might be worth a try.

    Which VLAN is the client connected to?

    I've just logged on to a 5406zl switch to check, when I ran "SHOW IP ROUTE" I do see the default route with 0.0.0.0/0 as the Destination as well as the and when I run "SHOW RUNNING-CONFIG" I also see the IP ROUTE 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0... entry.

    I do notice that the IP address of your default gateway is not showing in the routing table you have printed. Have you defined a VLAN which includes the IP address of your router?

    Good Morning.

    My Client is at the moment in my vlan 100. Gateway of course is the Switch's ip Adress from the GW: 10.10.100.254
    The Firewall has the 10.10.99.254 and the Switch has 10.10.99.1 in the 99er VLAN.

    I thought, when i give the switch the Ip default gateway (10.10.99.254) that he builds automatically the 0.0.0.0 route.
    On show running-config the route is present, but not in show ip route

    I also rebooted the switch, but only a warm reboot, will try a cold one.

    I'm thinking about to reset the Switch to factory, it's not productive at the moment

    Thanks to IrritableTech, just didn't that i'm using the wrong ip adress for the Gateway, now with the correct adress, it's running
