I have a legacy Netware 5 server here which is used by the finance dept and the bursar.
The whole disk is allocated the to sys volume, and there is a ton of files and directories on there.
Am I right in thinking that any files and folders on this disk will have supervisor inherited rights ? And this can be changed.

Not by default they shouldn't, the only way files gain the supervisor right is if they are explicitly granted to the files in question or if the supervisor right has been granted further up the directory structure thus being inherited to suborinate objects.
For more information about particular rights, you might like to take a look at the following document http://support.novell.com/techcenter...a19930404.html
although it was written with respect to Netware 4.0, the concepts are still valid and applicable to subsequent versions of Netware and eDirectory. You should also take a look through the red 'Concepts' book that came with the Netware documentation. If you haven't got access to the documentation, the complete set can be found online at http://www.novell.com/documentation/...cui/index.html

Thanks for that information. I see a bit more technical reading coming my way.

Re: Netware Permissions
You can change the rights at file or directory level by using the Novell tools Netadmin or Console 1
