You are not alone! The quietness could be something to do with Netware not giving QUITE so many problems as MS!

Having said that, we did have a bit of drama last term when our main curriculum server (which was over 5 years old) developed a habit of spontaneously rebooting itself! The abend log showed no discernible pattern, so after a couple of weeks trying to diagnose the problem we gave up and ordered a nice new shiny HP server - which was delivered with no hard-drives! It took us the best part of a month to track down the 8 146Gb 2.5" SAS drives we needed for it!!

All is now back to normal - abend log is empty....

P.S. We also got a nice new shiny FREE Windows 2003 server (courtesy of DfES/BECTA) to run the KS3 tests on - delivered on the very day the tests were scrapped!!! Guess it'll be useful as a bit of extra storage!

It's good to know there's another Netware Head out there.

Didn't know Netware had an Abend Log................

Yes, there are some of us out there, quietly going about our business though as for 'seeing the light' and moving to 'nix, the majority of Novell products run on Netware, Windows and Linux already so we have our feet in all camps.

I was Netware many years ago.

My current fav saying to my staff is

"Microsoft Active Directory - doing the same Novell has been doing for the past 10 years"

ps FFS Microsoft! if your going to rip off another product why couldn't you at least steal one of its most usefull functions? The handy restrict user to single login button

You're not the only one. I'm in the same boat as you. I really do prefer NetWare and I think its not given the credit it deserves.

Does netware still have that behaviour if you delete admin account it sets every user to admin status...

You're not the only Netware admin, I have been for the past 11 years, although from easter 2008 it's all change as we will be replacing the whole network with an RM system. SMT want 'full' support from our county ICT team and that means we have to move to a complete RM system.
On the plus side, it does mean that i'll get some new servers to play with to run it all.

dunno about that...unless it's a problem that could occur with netware prior to version 3.11 I have never seen that behaviour

if microsoft were going to rip off a feature from netware it should have been ndps. windows server has been crying out for something akin to ndps since w2k server rolled out of redmond.

As for the poster who's school are replacing netware with RM all i can say is...bad luck.

I think NW 6.5 is a great product, but unfortunately it is betamax to w2k3's VHS. A technically superior and more mature product but w2k3 will always be the platform of choice 99% of the time. AD still can't match Edirectory/NDS for scalability in the enteprise, but ofcourse Edirectory can run on Windows or Linux aswell now so NW is no longer the must have.

I had noticed how quiet this place was, wonder if netware will eventually have to go the way of VAX and OS/2.
