I'm getting tired of getting moaned at by lecturers because students are going to proxy sites to get access to social networking sites.

Appears to be a straight URL blacklist - and not maintained at that. If you are worried about proxies, really you need some sort of content filter. Those guys seem to do one as well - can't vouch for its efficacy mind.

you should really have a banlist on the word "Proxy" and "Marzie" as they are the 2 most commonly used search names for proxy busters. If you put the banlist on there and when they type it in google they lose out there priviledges.

Lot of email (and even text message) lists now - so preventing searching will help, but not completely solve the problem. I have just looked at the linkwall content filter, and it is very porn-based - no proxy detection rules as far as I can see - although do correct me if I am mistaken.
