Hey everyone, i have been asked to look nito creating a school planner application for both android and ios, I was wondering if anybody had any experience in doing so or if anyone could point me in the right direction. I have read into both XCode and Eclipse, but don't have a clue where to start. Hope to hear from you soon Cheers Edugeekers.
From what I understand you have to sign up to the Apple iPhone Development Program ($99), grab a Mac and the latest iPhone SDK for starters.

Unless you need access to a particular hardware feature, you might do best to simply make a cross-platform web-based application instead. That way you don't need a Mac for development, you don't have to pay Apple to get your app in their app store, you don't have to wait for approval and you don't have to do it all again for Android. Tablet-specific events are now passed from tablet/phone-based browsers and there are Javascript libraries to help you do things like easings for tablet-style animated page-scrolling effects.Quote:

Thanks for the replys however, with web apps and jquery mobile is it possible for the student to create a timetable of there own and be able to save it to there device? for example taking away the paper based school planners that our students get and try and go green.
Assuming their device has an accesible network connection of some kind, the timetable data would be saved server-side and they'd access it through a web-based interface. The timetable data should be coming from some other system within your network anyway - MIS or specialised timetabling application, probably. HTML5 / Javascript does do (limited size, I think) client-side storage these days, though, and a timetable shouldn't take that much storage space.Quote:

Hey thanks for the reply, the only reason we wouldnt be using our timetabling application, is because each of the students would need to be able to change there timetable, as sometimes these are not updated on our system as it may only be a temporary course, i will have a look into javascript and html5 and see what i can do with it thanks for the advice.
