We enter the password as we dont want students or staff to have access that that specific apple ID for various reasons.

I thought the app store always wanted a password at least once when installing apps. If you install multiple though it doesnt require multiple password entries?
EDIT* never come across an MDM solution for ipads paid for or free that will install apps without some kind of password. Didnt see any at BETT either but then again didnt see everything I wanted at BETT so maybe someone else knows of something?
Whether you enter a password on the iPad to install the App depends on which model of App distribution method you are using 'Personal" "Institution" or "layered"
If iPads are being installed using in Apple Configurator Apps don't require a username or password, you can use a "free" iTunes account to install apps using the Lightspeed MDM solution.
