VPP and Apple Configurator
Now, maybe no one else will have this problem and it is probably due to my lack of comprehension skills in the first place - but I thought I'd post it here just in case any one else did.
I have been using the Apple Configurator to setup some iPads / install some paid apps.
So the process involves: purchasing the app via VPP. Remeeding one of the code via iTunes to download the app. Adding the app to the Apple Configurator and then finallly importing the VPP code spreadsheet.
I did all this and then "prepared" the iPads. One of the iPads kept failing with something like "app not authorised". I checked the app/vpp list in the configurator and it seemed one of the codes had already been used and I no longer had enough licenses. Hmm. Turned out downloading via iTunes had used a code.
I did a quick google and found this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0 which suggested that for 'n' apps I'd need to purchase 'n+1' apps to use the configurator. I thought this seemed very odd and a bit of a waste of money. So I spent some more time (too much time) playing around with the configurator and more googling with no joy.
Finally I re-read the apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5188 and noticed this rather important line:
After using this code, re-download the spreadsheet and import it into Apple Configurator again. This allows Apple Configurator to automatically reassign this code to one of your devices.
Grr, re-imported the spreadsheets and everything is dandy.
Like I said, maybe it was obvious but I missed it - so maybe someone else will too! :)
