Been testing the Windows RT, can access shares like your normally would with in windows. You can print to networked printers just as you would in normal windows (although i've had a few issues with Konica Minolta printers that used a pop up to print. The pop up doesnt appear)

In terms of the x86 based surface pro there's a lot of rumours floating about the internet suggesting the 90-day release delay might be so that they can equip it with intel's upcoming haswell chip rather than the current Ivy Bridge range. From what I've been reading it's literally suppoed to offer nearly a 20-30% improvement in performance whilst using around half the power of the current Ivy bridge tech. Graphics performance is also supposed to be double that of the existing HD4000 chipset.

All sounds very promising for the Surface Pro and other Windows 8 tablets out next year
The Surface Pro should cost approx. £576.93 (64GB) and £644.09 (128GB) ex. VAT if the prices on Notebook.de are anything to go by.
Grrrrr, stupid NZ logic, just found the first few places selling Windows RT based tablets (note we don't get surface as MS doesn't give an excrement). The RT stuff is $400 more than the x86 stuff. Acer W8 - $800, Samsung RT - $1200. That is about 600 pounds for the cut down version. Looks like x86 really is the only option, at least here where the less featurefull device is 1/3 more than the more advanced one.
NZ is a hateful country. I should just milk cows or something.
Its a combo of stupid taxes - govt bangs on about being a tech/knowledge economy then taxes tech at a high rate - , and vendors either not bothering or inflating their prices hugely. Or core switch for example was 66% cheaper thanks to the suppliers importing all but the PSUs from America. This is 66% cheaper than the NZ EDU price when comparing to the standard US price, in this case more than enough to buy a decent brand new car.
I am considering using one of the onshipping companies or something to get a hold of a surface pro when they come out in the developed world as by the time MS releases them here it will probably be as part of a stock clearance at the original release price in the US.
I travelled round NZ. Lovely country and lovely people.Quote:
