    Just something to throw in here, and I'm not sure if it applies to the Apple TV solution or not, but certainly direct connections you need an iPad 2 or later, with iPad 1 then the app has to have mirroring programmed into it else it won't work (we have a trolley full of iPad 1 and there are only a couple of Apps that will allow mirroring on the device, thus it's not true mirroring I guess, but we simply use the Apple Port to VGA adapter - we have Apple ones, but I know a few people who have the generic versions that work just as well.

    Ah! I wondered why the link to the free version download didn't work, I had to go straight to the PayPal payment option. It seems to work a treat at home but not so far at work. I can't think what the problem would be either - I've checked firewall settings and so on, and our network definatly supports AirPlay as we've had the iPad connect to an Apple TV in another room. I've sent them a support email, I'll see if I get a response.

    For £5 just purchased the 5 User licence version to trial rather than the trial due to Facebook being needed. Only issue is it wont let you register the software key when using a proxy. Other than that have to say works a treat. Just select the airplay device and it appears on the laptop. One thing I have noticed is that CPU usage stay at a constant 15%-20% when not in use (using an i5) Tested with W7 64bit + Ipad2.

    Have noticed that the app always wants to check for updates on start-up, even after you have un-ticked automatically check for updates within settings. This then mean you get the following message every time it starts up when behind a our proxy.

    AirServerUpdateError.PNG

    To set the update settings change the following in the registry.

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AirServer\Updates]
    "CheckForUpdates"="0"
    "DidRunOnce"="0"
    Then make the Reg Key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AirServer\Updates read only, otherwise it resets the value on the next startup.

    When it does connect to its update server it gives you a "You are up-to-date!" message instead - rather annoying. I've just got a support email back from them that points out you need to have either iTunes or Bonjour Print Services for Windows (see Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2) installed for the iPad to actually be able to discover the Air Server machine.

    Bonjour Print Services for Windows comes as an EXE installer, but seemingly you can extract an MSI from that which looks handy for network-wide distribution:

    installation - Is it possible to install Bonjour Service without the Print Services on Windows? - Super User

    There is a bug in the current version of AirServer which will hinder activation if you are behind a proxy server while using AirServer for PC.
    We will be addressing this bug in the next update.

    Meanwhile we recommend you to activate AirServer using a different network that isn't located behind a proxy server.
    Official line from them RE: Proxies, waiting for an ETA on the next version.

    There is another option now in the shape of Reflection.app - AirPlay mirroring to your Mac or PC, wirelessly. Seems to work much better than AirServer and includes audio aswell.
