Firewall Ports
Hello,
I am new here. How have you guys dealt with Ipad's and your firewall? Trying to download apps via iTunes will not allow staff to do so. I have thought of creating a virtual network and then allowing our third party web filtering company to allow all the ports needed for use of the Ipad in the classroom.
This is the document from Apple,(guess i can't put links in yet) I am not about to open all these ports network wide.
Thanks,

29th March 2012, 07:19 PM #2 I have spoken to smoothwall about this who provide our firewall and they have previously said it is difficult to manage these by opening specific ports as all apps could work on different ports. We ended up just putting them on fixed ip's and opening up all ports for that specific range. We still filter their browsing.....
Don't know if this helps? Does your firewall provider have any ideas?

That is a good idea. Didn't think of that, thanks. When they take the device home would it switch off the static ip and to a dchp just by seeing their home network? From my understanding it should.

Yes static ip, proxy settings and that sort of thing are dependant on the network you are connected to
