Yeah, pretty keen to get my hands on one when it's released in the UK. I've never really been interested in an ipad or samsung galaxy as for the £500 price tag I've always felt it was too much for an internet tablet but at $199 it's much more appealing.
Suspect it'll be closer to £200 when it's released in the UK though!

Put it this way - the new normal kindle is $79, but is £89 in the UK. Using the same figures, it means it'll end up around £225.
Still, its a good price, and I'm interested in it too.
Gonna get my mom one of the new kindles though I think!

I might even buy myself one of these...looks very tempting!

Not very powerful though is it?

That doesnt bother me, ipad1 first release wasnt powerful compared to some of the tablets out now...
I think that it's a masterstroke on Amazon's part putting out a low powered tablet. If all it's gonna do is let you play music, watch movies, read books and browse websites do you really need dedicated graphics, the latest high end CPUs plus tens of Gb's of storage? Sure, they could have matched the ipad2 by fitting it with the latest Nvidia Tegra tech/etc but that's the reason every other manufacturer has failed to topple Apple IMO. Pitching a competing product at the same price as the ipad2 would have been suicide.
By selling for literally half the price it opens up an entirely new market segment IMO! I mean think about how it could change the way technology is used in schools if we could finally get a useable good quality £100-£200 tablet computing device for example!

Try reading a book on it outdoors on a sunny day. Personally, I'll stick with my Kindle 3 with an e-ink display, it does what it's supposed to do very well. The new Kindle without keyboard looks rather nice, the only downside is the battery only lasts a month compared to 2 on the Kindle 3, such hardship having to charge it once a month![]()

It's interesting how similar the Kindle Fire is to the PlayBook...
The Amazon tablet will look like a PlayBook -- because it basically is. « gdgt

I reckon Barnes & Noble should be more worried than Apple, especially considering the Kindle Fire is US only (there's no Amazon AppStore or Cloud Player in the UK!!!).![]()
