    nope its not rooted cba too much like work and its meant to say 2.1 eclair not 2.2 froyo but for some reason i cant edit it lol

    hmmmm, that may be the issue as everyone who's phone i got it to work on worked on 2.2 or above. Perhaps getting the ROM upgraded by carrier?

    samsung are releasing froyo sometime late march april i just dont want to mess round applying no official roms sounds like a good way to kill it to me

    well if you are worried about bricking the phone then good call to wait!
    Cant you softmod it? Software to run apps in super user without the worry of killing you phone.

    EDIT: Ill dig out the softmod software I have used and post later.

    It was my understanding that that's exactly what rooting is - allowing super user (root in linux terms) access to the phone by unlocking the root account...

    Root is a more long term hardcore way of accessing the phones OS. You might need to wipe your phone if you root it. A softmod is just an app running on your phone that unlocks it at the click of an icon or reverts it back.

    i have no idea. Its a phone rooting/softmodding just sounds a bit geeky even for me esp when in a month or so i should have froyo anyway

    Hard work? Its a five minute job at most.

    You really should take the plunge and upgrade to 2.2, your phone will operate so much better.

    but the samsung official update is due this month so why go to a non "stock" rom?
