    App for Edugeeks

I'm fancying a bit of a challenge (apart from going to work in the mornings that is ) and want to build a real world app (have to be for 'droid as that's what I've got - or it could be a web based one that would run on anything).

So if anyone's got an idea for a useful (simple) app for Edugeekers - give a shout out.

    Si

    You mean mobile app?

Although, either way would be a quick forum viewer for the EduGeek site, much like tweetbox but one that connects to this site.

There is an official one currently in the works (BTW, I have nothing to do with the development of it, in case that smug smiley there gave the impression I have lol)

Okay, what about one that could be used to snap a photo of a service tag/serial number of a machine and add it to a list/database through some OCR wizardry?

Si: any examples of prior works you have made in your tinkering with droid as I recall you asking a few questions a few months ago.

Tapatalk - Forum App on the iPhone, Android, webOS, Windows Phone 7 (WP7), Nokia, and BlackBerry for vBulletin, phpBB, IPBoard, SMF and more

Works on Vbulletin, simple to implement, and has all the features of the forum in a mobile app for Iphone and Android.
Dont see much point in developing a brand new app when one already exists...

Isn't that kinda like going from 'programming for beginners' to 'write Microsoft Windows from scratch'? OCR wizardry isn't exactly simple, although it would be very useful.

Si: I'd love a tide time calculator (I investigated it, but didn't have time to figure out how the calculation itself is done)

@Domino - exactly the sort of thing I thinking of - simple to envisage and would be useful.

    Any more ideas?

(I didn't mean an Edugeek access app - ZH says there is one coming and the current site mobile skin is fine for posting/reading on the train/bus )

(And ZH wouldn't let me have the database passwords )

I've got my world famous auto speed limit alert prog that is "nearly" at the release stage - I just have to take out all debugging modes so no-one kills themselves playing with my app whilst driving!)

I have lots of issues with the server side part and thats before its a buy app that really limits what we can implement, I have not added it as I really dont ever want anyone to become dependant on it when we would have removed it.

Id like an app that will list all of the computers in school then be able to send a message to a chosen PC.

Or view the event log on my phone.

Remote shutdown/WOL any computer from my phone.

    just a few ideas.

A domain admin app - change usernames, passwords etc... in an active directory. Maybe control print queues too.
