That's a shame mate, it's a cracking phone! I'm with T-Mobile, but I re-flashed to stock HTC ROM for 2,2 because I got sick of waiting for T-Mobile to roll it out. Needless to say, I've had no problems like you describe. Occasionally an app will force close, but that's down to the app rather than the phone.

Bad luck it sounds like you've got a rogue phone. I've had mine since July and it's only crashed once which isn't surprising considering the junk I've put on it.

I wouldn't mind if it was as simple as a force close of an appand I have had one of those, it was something to do with media streaming from the internet. I really liked the phone and have tried a hard reset and formatting the SD card (yeah, I was sceptical too but I figured it was worth a shot).
So off to the T-Mobile shop it is on my lunch break. I just don't seem to be having much luck recently.

That sounds good. I also have RetroCamera and FXCamera on mine - you can get some cool images - like this I took the other week:

Three have switched over to the orange network. In Weymouth this means no signal for maybe 2 - 4 months. I was two months into my contract with three, out of a a 24mnth contract. (my wife also) we complained about the signal problems, got the phones unlocked, one months refund on our bill and the contract cancelled. So we now have two brand new unlocked desires that cost us around £40 each.
This is the second long contract that we have terminated and kept the phone with three in the past 4 years.

Well have had my new Desire for a few days and all has seemed quite well. Ordered a longer USB cable and got it because the one that HTC supply is a tad too short for my liking. Installed a few apps like:
Astra File Manager
ShopSavvy Barcode Scanner
Truth or Dare
AVG Antivirus Free
Have a few more I don't use but so far I'm over the moon.

I'd be very dubious about that app: AVG do not mention it at all on their website, I don't install anything that carries a well known brand name if the company themselves don't acknowledge its existence.

I'll be joining the Desire club tomorrow
Orange sorted my new contract at the weekend, 24 month with 800 mins to any network, unlimited landline calls, 1300 texts and 500MB Internet for £22.50 a month... being on the network for over 10 years does give some negotiating power hehe. Much better than the awful deal they offered me initially with an LG Optimus!
Did have the opportunity to upgrade to the Desire HD for £50 but it's too large even for me (who does love a brick phone) and the extra resale value wasn't worth the aggro of selling etc. Originally I wanted the Desire Z but having seen the hinge mechanism I doubt it would last 5 mins with me as my phones over the last few years have had a hard life :P
Not sure how I'll get on without my beloved QWERTY keyboard but gonna have to give it a go...

Ye I mean going from a hardware keyboard on my Touch Pro to an onscreen one, always been a bit dubious with touchscreen keyboards but we shall see

@gshaw Don't worry about it, I had the same concerns with an onscreen keyboard as with touchscreen phones I generally have a right hassle but the Desire is really good at coping with my dyslexic fingers.

First day spent over on the Anroid side and have to say I'm rather impressed
Everything is very fluid and smooth, even warming to the touchscreen keyboard... so far so good! Only thing seems to be the battery life but it seems to charge equally quickly so once my Micro USB cables arrive from eBay it can sit juicing up during the day courtesy of the PC
