Personally I would go for the Desire. Having had the 3GS and the Desire, the desire spanks the 3GS. If u do a google search on iphone vs htc desire, u will see various videos showing both.
One advantage to the desire is that you do not have to jail break it to put various apps on and customise it how you want.
I have a desire and love it,,, also you can install a custom OS on it which you can find info on here HTC Desire - xda-developers
I have been using a Desire for a Month or so now on Orange and am very happy.
I use it mainly as a business tool with Exchange Syncing for Mail, Calendars etc and have found it very reliable. Ive never used an iPhone, but an accountant friend of mine has just ditched his 3GS for the Desire after using mine.
Definately recommend.

In all honesty though, for a set of managers as an email device, don't you think the iPhone would be easier to use?
Clearer UI, easier settings screens, etc?
If you're asking me what I think I like best as a phone and communications device, then I would answer "iPhone". I'd point to the reasons that Domino has outlined just above my post to justify that, too.
If you're asking which your business should be buying then I would say "whichever one you will find easier to support". E.G. do you have any iphone enthusiasts in your IT team already, for example, or do you know someone who has already got an Android phone configured just how you like it who is willing to help produce a crib sheet for that, etc.
I have had a iPhone for 3 years or so now (2G, then 3G), and just switched to a Desire. Think its excellant. Easily intergrated into Exchange (as it had already been set for the iphone), so no extra work needed there. I'm not anti-iphone, if I hadnt seen the Desire, I would have kept using the 3G. The Desire, just has a nicer "feel".
Of course, Im comparing to the 3G (not even S), so as a comparision to the iPhone 4 might be more equal.

There's no real difference between them.
Toss a coin, go by price - whatever.
HTC Desire won't play IPlayer yet as it doesn't have Flash - but its promised "later in year".
To paraphrase an old saying - no one ever lost their job buying the management shiny new IPhones

iPhones are easy to manage and hard to break, plus i think the management will be very happy with there posh new iphones. So be popular and pick the iPhones, i would

There is a huge difference, Desire you can make your own apps, you dont need to jailbreak it to customise it, and you have more freedoms in terms of usability, you get more bang for buck from the marketplace compared to the app store.
Do research on it, look at what your needs are and go from there.
I have mine playing iplayer perfectly AND supporting flash without an issue.
This much is true, but do not go for them because they are the in thing, go for something you can get maximum usability from.
Sorry to tear your post apart simon!![]()

I've got both and for ease of use with regards to managers, the iPhone wins in my opinion. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I've found ease of use paramount to their success with end users especially for email as Domino said earlier.

Please reread and emphasise the "real" in the sentence
We are talking toys for the boys here (Sorry - i mean useful management tools)

Simon

And how have you acheived this without rooting the device and installing a hacked OS? (which is not something you'd really want to be doing on new corporate phonesI have mine playing iplayer perfectly AND supporting flash without an issue.)

Simon

iplayer is available for download, and a friend of mine created the app to allow embedded flash which does not root the device.
