Best contract / deal for HTC Desire...

My contract is up next month on my T-Mobile G1 and I'm looking at getting the Desire. Are there any really good contracts out there? I've been looking at Orange and others. I'm really going to be mainly using it for the internet & email so the data use is very important.

I am in exactly the same situation with T-Mobile, I looked at the offer online for me to get the Desire and they would still charge me 30 a month over 18 months then they wanted 170 for the phone! I checked their website to see what a new customer would pay and as far as I can see for the same contract (including data) over 18 months a new customer pays only 99 for the Desire !!! Me thinks that I will be asking for my PUK code come the end of june and see if they offer me the phone for free or I will give another provider the 99 !!

Vodaphone - 20 a month / 18 month contract, cost of phone is 50. 600 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data, unlimited email, free facebook / twitter etc

They phoned me with that offer (and I am not on vodaphone!)

Either I got lucky or they've changed their prices then, because I got one with tmobile about a month ago, 30p/m with unlimited texts, 'unlimited' data (3gb fair use policy, most others are 1gb), 500 minutes and the phone for free

Was it Vodafone that called you? Just had a quick scout on the website and can't find anything like it

Got one on its way to me now. I asked for a PAC code next day I had a call and they offered me the Desire at a very good price.

Anybody care to recommend any essential software or good Desire/Android related sites?

Also cant decide if I should try 'rooting' this phone anybody done this and what is the advantage? at the moment I think I would rather keep the warranty.

    Android Apps

The other thing, which I think is more important than getting the cheapest deal, is making sure the network you choose has very good data coverage where you will use it most, some networks are very patchy.
