Just been watching James Quarles from Dell talking about Dell's vision of the connected Classroom Video: What a connected classroom looks like | IT PRO This is great, but slightly embarrassing for Dell, given that everyone in teaching is already using this stuff, and people like Microsoft, Apple, Frog, Smart, Promethean (honestly, I'd run out of space if I listed them all) have been talking about this sort of thing for years. Where on earth have they been? It's scary that the biggest name in education PCs seems to have only just realised where teaching is going... What does everyone else think?

Just loved the part about the netbooks with the user indicater led so that the teacher can see that the user/student is maybe using MSN messenger or e-mail and therefore the teacher would notice if they are off task (absolute rubbish) the teachers can see the screens in most ICT classrooms and most wouldn't notice even if it jumped up and bit them that the students were off task.
It is as you have already said in your post that Dell are so far behind all the other manufactures in what they feel is needed in todays classroom it is unbelievable and also laughable.

I saw a Dell notebook for the first time in two years (lucky me) - the thing is worse than I remembered. They need to follow the other guys...maybe then they'll make some quality products.

A far more useful benefit of that feature is that the technician can very quickly tell if the wireless has been accidentally disabled as soon as they walk in the room having been summoned to explain why the pupil cannot log on. We have one of the Latitude 2100s as a test unit, and it's actually a very nice bit of kit. I've evaluated nearly a dozen different netbooks in the last year and the 2100 is one of my favourites (though their initial offering, the Dell Mini 9, was rubbish).
