We have just got in some Blackberry Bolds and we want to connect them to our MS exchange email accounts but we don't want to but the Blackberry Enterprise Server. Has anyone seen or done this?
I'm not sure exactly how the voodoo works. But if you have OWA working, I believe it should be able to connect. When you add the email choose exchange server and fill out the credentials
Quite easy if you add the blackberry email address as a contact on the Exchange server and then you can set a BCC on the exchange user's account to forward all email through to that contact
PM me if you want more instructions![]()
Without a BES all you can get is your mail, as posted above this can be done by using the OWA connection via the Blackberry Mail System or by mail forwarding to the Blackberry's external mail address as an external contact.
Despite what you or your user think now, it will only be a matter of time before they want it all and that includes full syncronisation of Outlook to mobile device. Calendars, Notes, etc etc etc....
Then you will have no choice than to buy a BES and pay the extra monthly charges that most carriers want for enterprise connection!
There is a "Lite" version of BES that is free and can install onto your existing Exchange box if you dare, you get 1 free cal and then you start paying.
Once the hidden costs of BB usage hit's home they will wonder why they bothered in the first place!
At one site I look after they insisted on going down the BB route despite my advice and recommendations, so after 40 BB's and a BES they have now decided to dump the lot and go iPhone after all!
Anything with ActiveSync does it for free! Blackberries belong in Pies!....

Just register the BlackBerry on your providers site (BIS) and input the settings there, simples![]()
