3rd August 2009, 08:32 PM #1 HTC Hero Screenlock app?
One failing of the Hero over the iPhone is that there's no way, natively on the Hero, to lock the screen. This, to me is a major failing.
Is there a decent app to add this functionality?
The only app I can find is Lock 2.0, that's a chargeable app and I've read mixed reports of it. Can anyone give a first-hand opinion of this?
Any other apps out there\?

3rd August 2009, 08:38 PM #2 settings -> security -> require pattern
settings -> sound and display -> screen timeout
should do it.
also take a look at 'contact owner' it displays info such as your email address/alt number if you loose the phone

Saw that but it only controls unlocking the screen following a 'timer shutdown' doesn't it?
I want to be able to lock the screen at will, like the iPhone does with it's slider lock.

3rd August 2009, 10:24 PM #4 with the security pattern, I just hit the power button (rather than hold the power button) and the G1 locks.

3rd August 2009, 10:47 PM #5 Yeah, that will have to do for now.
In reality I just want a screen slider control because it looks good, no other reason really
I'll maybe have a look at Lock 2.0
Thanks anyway.

3rd August 2009, 11:11 PM #6 oh, you said that you just wanted to lock the screen - which android does out of the box.
Let me know if you find something that can lock the screen using a slide thing or any other interesting method.

4th August 2009, 02:30 PM #7 On re-reading my OP I wasn't clear, sorry.
I'll keep looking; Lock 2.0 is the best I've come across so far but I think that only replaces the standard unlock screen. I really want a permanent widget or app that locks and unlocks the screen with a slidey thing.
I really should get out more

Not checked yet. I wouldn't imagine that what I'm looking for would be in a firmware fix though.

You'd be suprised - when android when from V1 to V1.5 (cupcake) it added a bunch of different functionality. The last update was just bugfixes iirc.

It'll do the updates automatically, you just need to say yes

OK. Do I have to do anything to get the update process moving or does it just happen?
Another question, a little OT but there we are; battery life - it seems to be attrocious. What do other users achieve with moderate to heavy internet / wifi usage + a few texts and calls?
