Acer punts £199 Linux laptop | Register Hardware
That looks nice at a nice price - 8.9inch screen at eeePC 7in price!

Now that is good! Now where to get one on order from?
On UK shelves on 10 July according to http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/0,1...9428446,00.htm

Looks good to me![]()

Just spotted YouTube - Acer Aspire One hands on and YouTube - Acer Aspire One video review from stuff.tv
I also noticed that Expansys are doing pre-order at Acer: Home - eXpansys UK

CCL have them on the site and are cheaper than expansys - Acer Aspire One from CCL - Awarded Best Online Retailer 2007 & 2006 for laptops, desktops and computer hardware

@John: Good find! The things are cheap at their £199.99 RRP so the extra £8 saving is ace! (plus they are showing the blue ones which look nicer IMHO)

The price CCL are showing is retail as wellI can make you smile by saying that you should be looking at a single unit buy price of £191.19+vat. The fact they are Coming Soon does mean that the price showing is what they expect it to be but until the stock hits C2000 etc that price may go up or down. Have a word with the Edu sales team and see if they will put you a pre-order on the system now for one at the nice price.

I went to Currys yesterday (unusual for me!) and purchased an Acer Aspire One for £199!!!
It is ace! Way better than the EeePC! Love it already!
The offer ends TODAY (Wednesday 27/08/08) so I urge you to go down to your local store and buy one. It's well worth the... "yes I know it isn't a laptop"... "no I don't want one of your silly little half price £15 bags" and "I think I'll skip on the technical support plan" to get one of these.
A review (with EeePC comparison) will be coming to a certain little website near you soon!
...Way better than which eee ? The 701 cetainly, the 901 perhaps, but the 1000 ?? No chance....the trackpad buttons on the aspire are just all wrong....the same design flaw puts me right off the minibook aswell.
Although i suppose comparing the aspire one with something like the eee 100H is not comparing like for like in terms of price and size/weight....but tbh, i'd rather spend the extra 100 pounds or so on the eee 1000 and put up with a little bit of extra bulk. Allround it just looks a better package.
wow, the netbook market really is starting to look a bit crowded....big red have entered into the fray with the ideabook....8.9 inch and 10inch screen options using the same chassis!!!

Can anyone tell me if the linnux version is compatible with SMARTboard software? I have asked before, even directly to ACER and SMART technologies, but noone ever commits to an answer - the SMART software specifications don't help as Im not technical enough - If anyone with a ASPIRE one has successfully put on the smart software then please let me know!
Also does anyone have a date for the release of the pink aspire one?
thanks

Fair enough... I shall clarify... it wipes the floor with the 701 which is approx. £180 + VAT. For an extra £19 I would rather have a screen that can see the full width of a web page and a hunk more processing power. Admittedly the trackpad buttons will take a bit of getting used to but I find the ones on the EeePC 701 to be unresponsive.Originally Posted by torledo
I also couldn't justify spending £300 on what is meant to be an 'inexpensive' device.
IIRC SMART do not currently have a Linux driver. I have a feeling that there is a Promethean driver (not software) but I would have to check. Interwrite are the only boards I know of that have drivers AND software for Windows/Linux/OS X though.
So if I bought an Aspire one with Windows on it, would that work with smart software?
