Yep between my 2 schools we have around 150 of them. Took a while for the teachers to stop pouting we weren't having shiney iPads!! But they have since worked out how controllable and customisable the learnpads are they have taken to them 100% now.

Okay, these LearnPads have piqued my interest.

So, they're an Android device but with 3rd party management software on top?

    This explains a bit.

Yes they are Android based, they are rooted (or jailbroken in IOS speak) so that you could shadow students screens from a PC. The software will generally run on any Android tablets other than Learnpad (I ran the software on a Zoostorm 8 inch for example) and has most of the functions (like customised Desktop according to subject)
but to get screen shadowing and control of students Tablets you will need to have them rooted. That was the selling point of buying the Learnpad hardware rather than just running it on any Andriod device.

    This explains a bit.
I have always used the web based system to control and push software. Never even noticed you can do some of the bits from the device itself.

This goes over some other bits but might be worth jumping to 6 mins or so.

We took delivery of 30 Learnpads on Monday...

Getting them all set up with WiFi, proxy and registered on Learnpad site was just a matter of scanning some QR codes...only niggle so far is a unit with a dodgy rear camera...and they are swapping that out later today.

I nearly sent them all back however after all the comment from certain teachers ie

Why did you only get 30?
    Why didn't you get iPads?
Why is the trolley so ugly?
Why is the trolley so big?
Why isn't the trolley in our school colours?
Can I have one to keep in my classroom?
    Do they have internet?
    Can I take one home?
    etc
    etc
    etc
    Grrrrrrr.........

Makes you wonder why we bother

We've looked at windows, androids and apple. It looks like we are going for iPads purely because the apps are better.

    Are you secondary or primary.

Also all the app devs I know are in the process of making the apps OS independent. Same app will be created for all platforms.
