iPads in school
I work as an IT technician in a primary school. We are soon to get rid of 2 trolleys worth of laptops because they are out dated, And we are now a CC4 networked school.
various discussions have taken place about what we should get to replace the out dated laptops. A few ideas were thrown out Bout iPads. Now, I'm a great fan of the iPad range, and I support apple and their technology. But, can we network iPads if we were to buy them? We are talking about 15 iPad mini's. I think this would be great for the kids. But I need to know if they can be controlled and networked.
any answers will help

In a few of the schools I support we use Meraki to manage the iPads used by the students. Link below.
You simply make a meraki network for the school and enrol the iPads to it via the link it gives you. Once they are managed by meraki you can restrict what apps they get, what apps they can access etc.
You can even lock out the appstore entirely, making it only possible to install apps via Meraki itself. Its great for free apps but as for paid ones you will need to sign up for apples Volume purchasing program.
Hope this helps

The lightspeed MDM is another alternative to Meraki - although I must admit we use Meraki and love it.
The lightspeed MDM product has a RRP of £5 per device, but I am sure theres some flexibility the more licences you require.
