I'll take it at that price - but I want a 3G option!!
Really loved the look of this, however i almost feel like i might just wait for the projected ipad mini to be honest. Only from a personal point of view if i break down what i will use it for it will be ideal. Sadly i think the MS Surface will price itself out of the tablet industry given they dont really have a name for themselves already. Putting it at Apple prices most people wont want to take the risk.
Somewhat agree and I also felt the same on the Windows 8 Phones especially their premium make or break Nokia Lumia 920.
Needs to be a good £100 cheaper than the iPad to make the headlines, would love something like £299 to really get people onboard but would expect about £349 once UK rip-off charges get added as is usual with tech over here

Great price, really looking forward to this with SCCM 2012 SP1, although unsure if it'll make it to the UK under £450.
Samsung are doing the ATIV TAV (approx £500-£550), be great if MS are going to seriously undercut it.

@Theblacksheep any ideas when SP 1 will be out please?
as long as its price competitive with the iPad. Certainly going to buy one to have a go on with the intention of buying it to compare against iPad use in the classroom.
Acer are releasing their tablet with keyboard in the £430 ish price range for 32GB model and Lenovo the same kind of price area - Time will tell i suppose.
Can pre order now

If I were to get one I'd want it with the keyboard which is likely to translate into a UK price of around £500 for the 32Gb model. That's pretty expensive especially when you consider you can pickup a similarly spec'd Nexus7 for around £200! Can't believe they want £100 for the keyboard either!
The device itself is really nice though and I do like the form factor, kick stand and bolt on keyboard. The only thing that puts me off it (apart from the price) is the relatively low-res screen. For that kind of money it should really be 1080p IMO.

hmmmm, starts at 399, 479 with the cover and 599 for the 64gb.
@FN-GM no idea, beta is available for SCCM2012SP1 (no upgrade to RTM) but no word on RTM release date yet, lots of great features (inc deploy to iWhatever).

This is a real disappointment for me.
I agree with others in this thread that Microsoft really needed to subsidise the Surface in order to gain market share in the consumer market. I personally would really like the idea of using Windows RT tablets within school, however the APPs will not come if there is no market.

Ok, so by my workings this make it £399exVAT when you include a touch cover. All I can say I hope they'll be some hefty educational pricing.

Is here going to be a x86 based version?
Unless it can run SIMS it's next to useless for the way thet we want to use tablets.
Unless there is an App out there for registration?
@Mr.Ben
Not aware of Microsoft creating an x86 version, but there will be several coming out some people like Samsung running the new Atom processors.
Capita, keep up with the times? Can't really see it. I am aware of a couple of VLE creators working on HTML 5 versions of their registrations systems which write back to Sims.NET. Since that HTML 5 can easily be moved into an RT App we may see something in the next year or so.

i thought there was an x86 version coming surface pro or some such
just too expensive £100 for the keyboard as well its just too much
