Microsoft is the only place you can get it from - they are out of stock in the UK at the moment but if you pre order one it should be with you in 2 weeks or so (last I checked).

Nope just Microsoft
they are keeping a tight reign on them but you will be able to get the Asus/Samsung ones from other places (inc the high street).

Well, with their App store selection, a lot of the things that make it good are the things that make it different.

I really hope this is the case!! This has been a bug bear of most mobile OS's up untill now. The kluddgy DropBox solution just has too many problems for schools.

24th October 2012, 01:57 PM #69 Education just isn't a big part of Microsoft's strategy here. We seem to have fallen through the cracks. We need domain managed cheap tablets and can't afford a surface pro. Hopefully the cost of surface pro's (x86) will come down. Domain membership needn't affect performance on ARM processor. I know why MS made the decision just really frustrates what school would love to do.

Can't find that device anywhere as an x86 device - it comes up as an android tablet? They only have it listed on their site as an A510 too - an android device. The Windows tablets seem to be W5 and W7 devices?

@SYNACK got the name wrong. It's called the Acer Iconia W510.
the W510 will start at $500 for the tablet only, though you'll also be able to purchase it with the detachable keyboard dock for $750. (And if the dock really does double the battery life to 18 hours, you might want to). Though the W510 won't be available for a few weeks yet -- it goes on sale November 9th
the W510 does a disservice to Acer: with a chintzy build and a cramped, netbook-like keyboard, it confirms whatever pre-conceived notions shoppers may have about the brand. And with so many Windows 8 hybrids on the way, including one from Microsoft itself, Acer can't afford to have its products get lost in the mix.

The screenshot below shows the directory size for both C:\Windows and C:\Program Files, the latter is where the Office15 install files are included (and yes winword.exe is still the Word executable).
You're looking at roughly 6.47GB for Windows RT and then another 830MB for Office for a grand total of around 7.3GB.
