Uninstalling solus 3
Anyone removed solus 3 and have a handy guide for doing so? Made do with disablement for now since capital own guys don't have a bloody clue how to fix problems with their own software and both myself and my school would rather that updates were done properly!
currently just disabled the services and will use 2 in future. May just leave s3 in place but disabled in case its ever made usable with a GUI not put together by people who just can't. Couldn't see anything on support net.
A Solus 2 update at the client end is only taking 3-5 mins depending on the machine. As it's summer, most machines will be reimaged anyway, so they'll be done at source.
I don't see any great advantage in 3 to be honest.
You can use 2 to update clients? Do tell!
I just mean, the usual method, i.e. simsload compares the .ini file version to server realises it needs to update and does it, itself.
In fact some schools just script that to run over night, but i was thinking more of the user initiated action.
I wouldn't say it's a hindrance, and there are few if any machines that won't upgrade like that when a teacher runs SIMS.
Ah yes, the issue here appears to be that those files are not updated due to s3 so they don't update like that any more :(
Not even if you run SOLUS 2 on the server? you might have to update the server setups using an ISO.
I wonder if capita have ever had an independent 3rd party look at thir docs and procedures. Because they're nowt short of diabolical. Just ran s2 on the server and it told me to clear off with wrong versions. Will get in touch with capita and demand they come do a proper job of it.

On a serious note, if you enable the Agent services again on your workstations, you can uninstall them from the SOLUS3 UI with the 'Uninstall Agent' button. Once removed, all you need to do is uninstall the DS, UI, detach the DB and delete. Any SOLUS3 agents that can't be uninstalled via the UI will be a manual removal.
Why don't you just build a new VM server and restore the SIMS data! :p
No go - no more servers. It's a primary school, sims server is the solus server is the cc3 server etc :|
