Reopen Closed Session in Profiles

Anyone had to reopen a session in Profiles? Due to an issue where a whole subject wasn't appearing the session was closed to try and solve the problem and not all classes were generated. This seems like it is an non-reversible edit now. The solution suggested was to restore the SQL database to get the marks back but this will of course mean all lesson registration marks will be lost and any other work on SIMS done today.

A duplication of the closed session or even, heavens forbid, if it is just a flag in the DB to change that would be fine.

Seems a bit silly that to fix an issue in one small part of SIMS you have to restore the whole DB!

We had a similar issue to this recently, where accounts were closed and needed "fixing", capita answer was basically not do-able as it's a oneway process. Think in the end we just re-mounted the latest backup :( Not the answer you're after I guess. Guess it might be different for classes though

Been through a number of these issues with the development team recently. Their response was "it was designed that way on purpose" and mumbled something OMR readers. They did mention something about possible changes in the next Spring release that might allow you to go back a stage.

But yeah, rubbish design - you have to restore the entire DB to go back a stage in profiles!

Don't use profiles but can you restore to a test server to get at the info you need, export it somehow and then use it in the live system. Or just generate teh remainder from test server?

Support say no, can't import data into Profiles. We are going to restore to a test server so we can get the paper based reports back and may have to skip the e-versions.

Really, really rubbish!! Part of me has a sneaky, probably unfair, suspicion that closing a session just sets a flag in a record somewhere and if we could flip that back it would be ok. But I daren't go hunting!

You can still select a closed session in the Generate Student Profiles screen by changing the drop down - now whether that allows you to regenerate and edit profiles for a closed session or not I don't know (haven't got my test system upto date so can't play with it), I've a feeling possibley not which is why we tend to keep all our profiles sessions open but locked until the 1st half term of the following academic year. :/

Unfortunately SIMS does some garbage collection when you change the session status so some data, it thinks is no longer needed, can end up being deleted from the database. Which is what happened to us when a session was moved from active to review stage with a subjects comment banks accidentally unchecked.

At this point Capita told us the data is gone forever and you cannot go back a session stage :(
