Yes it does but you will need to run csript commands to register the 32 bit applications. I will find the csripts i had to run and post them for you
He is right - and generally it does work pretty well...
I think there is a patch for FMS, and there is also a specific 64 bit installer for SQL and its native client.
I have a Windows 2008 x64 server, I have installed MS SQL 2005 SP3 x64 Standard.
I have SIMS .net August '09 (v.7.122) working, I didn't need to anything extra. I JUST installed Windows, MSSQL, ran SIMSINST job done.
Please note, workstations are 32bit!
Only tricky bit is making sure you have the latest SIMS setups.
thanks guys ill give it ago and see what happens, just want to make sure fms and exams are ok, is there any part of the sims system that dont support 64bit

We're now running SIMS on Server 2008 Enterprise x64
4 CPUs, 6GB RAM Hyper-V
SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition
Seems to be running fine at the moment.
Can be switched between our physical servers within a minute with quick migration (we couldn't wait for the release of Server 2008 R2 to get live migration)
It was pretty much a standard install - no scripts to run - you just have to remember you are installing to Program Files (x86) for SIMS when you set config settings for SIMS

The only part of the workstation components not supported is the BDE install, which is 16bit (and not needed now anyway, I believe)
The only problem you may come across is the FMS install... On your 32bit stations you will literally need to make a folder called "program files (x86)" and install your FMS client in there if your server is 64 bit.
i am having issues with installing SIMS.net client on windows 2008 64bit everything works except for system manager. it throws and error
netui2.dll is missing
I have copied over the netuiX.dll from the windows 2003 server this got rid of netui1.dll error but i just can't shift the second one.
any ideas?
@penfold_99
Your setups are out-of-date.
Sorry, been rather busy today, by setups I mean simsinf.
SIMSinst should be 1.574.2.0
Can I tap into this thread please?
I have a new server for SIMS (still got the old 32bit one running at the moment). The new server will be 64bit 2003 R2 (until we migrate to 2008).
I have the June main release but I think it's the 32bit version because it wont let me install it. What I want to do is to assume I've never used SIMS ever before and just install a fresh copy from scratch then move the databases over. Is this possible and what do I need to do it. Capita support is woefully resourced with info on installing on 64bit servers and how to do it cleanly.
We use FMS as well btw.
Cheers
HBJB
Problem most people have is the sims inf is out of date, I'll make post later how to make a new clean setups directory.
