Facility ClientFiles

We have just changed our MIS to Serco facility from sims. Facility requires there to be a folder called client files to be in each users my documents folder, I have already manually copied the folder into a few users folders but we have quiet a few admin staff who require access. My thought is there must be an easier way of doing this and was wondering if anyone out there had done this task before and may have a script available or a great piece of software. I should mention our servers are on 2003. Your help is much appreciated

not heard of this before, we create a folder called Admin on the C: drive, which we save the databse connection file too, then any changes the individual makes to personlise CMIS gets saved to the C:\admin folder locally, thus not effecting the server defaults.

psexec, from sysinternals. Can give you a remote shell, and has some snazzy remote copy (and executio) command line switches too.

In their logon script add:

if not exist "h:\client files" mkdir "h:\client files" ???

I like that idea plexer, do you know of a way of maybe specifying the source folder to be copied into the h: drive. I'll explain why, client files originally are on the server it is a folder full of specific files required for facility to run, also a place for user specifics on facility to be stored. The idea in placing this folder on the H drive is to allow these user specific settings to roam with the user which is the reason why we are doing this slightly different to danIT.

its easy for us, as we restrict the number of PC's which can access cmis for security/data protection. Also the users who use CMIS use the same PC each day. Lucky i supposse.

just stick them somewhere that is accesible such as the netlogon share then add:

if not exist "h:\client files" goto copy
goto end
:copy
mkdir "h:\client files"
copy "\\server\netlogon\client files\*.*" "h:\client files"
:end

Or something like that.

You only need a copy in each My Docs area if you're interested in them saving away the program in the state they left it (ie the sizes of windows etc), otherwise you can (usually) run from one central folder.

But if you do it this way if they DO save changes they will overwrite the (single set of) client files and keep undoing each others settings. Our LEA set it up like this. :roll:

On a similar note, we have the set up where staff have these files in their User Share/Documents. We copied it from a BV script similar to the script above. During the summer the whole of admin had new PC's.

The strange thing that happens now is, when they make changes to their st up ie; windows size it doe not seem to save it the next time they log on. Another pain is the Student layout, it comes up as basic info, even if you go to 'view'>standard view it corrects it but does not save the view next time?

Any suggestions?

in the box at the bottom it had both custom and standard, i deleted the custom and just left standard and it worked fine.
