Which SQL version?
I've stuck this in here as we need to upgrade our version of SQL(which runs PASS) from 2000. But my question is do i hold on a couple of months and go for 2008 or stick with the tried and tested 2005.
When are MS planning on not supporting 2005? I'm guessing not for a fair few years so would be 1 plus.
You not running SIMS .net?
I would got 2005. Not much supports 2008... yet.
I know MS is pushing Windows 2000 (server \ pro) to be replaced with vista\2008.
Never used PASS, I think lol.
I would got 2008 if you want a change and your current setup could late a bit longer, I would guess a few months of patches and such, I've had a similar thing with Bromcom
I would stick with SQL 2005 SP2 as it has been tried and tested. SQL 2008 has literally been out for days, so support will be very thin on the ground.
Thanks that was my thinking as well that 2005 will be well supported.
Nope lucky enough to not use sims, use PASS which does everything sims does but seems a lot more stable lol :);)
LIES! TOTAL LIES!!
SIMS .NET is the best, there is nothing else out there that does MIS stuff for schools, anyone that tells it does is a witch that should be burnt at the stake!!
Capita keeps me in a job, at least till either;
- They replace LEA support
- They write supreme code that has non errors, is remotely controlled and dead easy to install etc etc etc
I doubt Sims.NET would actually work on SQL 2008 at the moment. Support for SQL 2005 was added later on. I suspect in the next year or so, support for SQL 2008 will be included too.
I believe SQL 2005/2008 has a backward compatible with older databases, so you SHOULD be fine.
Personally I would like the challange, PASS looks like a company who would like the challange, shame they can't use MySQL :D
Yes, live data = stable. So whatever PASS recommend. I guess SQL2005.
