SIMS User Groups and Permissions
Hi, could some one please help me out, I have some SIMS users that need to generate reports but I dont want to give them much more access then class room users, does anyone know the minimal group/permission that allows users to create/run reports etc. I've done it before at another school but can't remember.
Thanks xxx
:)
Re: SIMS User Groups and Permissions
all Class Teachers can run reports and also create their own.
i think that must be the lowest level of access you can give, but it does still have some things they can edit within it. you'll just have to train them.
the first thing to tell them would be to make sure the private button is not checked, that way, other people can benefit from their reports.
your other alternative is to clone the Class Teacher security group and painstakingly remove all permissions to edit data. you could create one from scratch but i think that they need lots of view permissions everywhere in order to see the output of their reports so it's easier to delete from an existing group (once you've cloned it first of course.)
Re: SIMS User Groups and Permissions
Thanks for the reply. But in the toolbar, Design Reports does not disply when logged in the users account, there is definatly a group you can add them in so they can access the feature. Unless we have customized groups and permissions here?

Not strictly true - that's the lowest standard level, but you can create your own which are completely read-only.
Re: SIMS User Groups and Permissions
Thanks NickJones for clearing that up, someone must have set the different groups up manually. I'll ask someone tomorrow it's nearly 4 lol.
Re: SIMS User Groups and Permissions
what groups are they in at the moment? we have a default Class Teacher group that allows them to run and design reports.
if you are happy with the group they are in, then you can create a custom security group as NickJones said, to sit on top of that.
into that group just add the run and design report permissions.
i don't know of any specific group purely for doing reports because it will always need at least view access to other areas in order to run the report.
i had to create a custom group to allow view next of kin details for staff, so they could view other colleagues' timetables. for some reason the default report required that permission latently. it's supposed to have been fixed by capita but i haven't tested it yet.
