SIMS Silent Install Not Installing BDE

    Hi all!!

Got a slight issue installing SIMS silently. The main install works fine, it seems to affect only Options I have noticed so far.

Basically it doesn't seem to install the BDE despite using the script I found on Edugeek

Anyone else using SIMS silent install and Options together?

    Many thanks
    James

    Code:
     @echo off

    REM CREATE LOG FILE
    echo ...Log Started... >> c:\SIMSINSTALL.log

    net use S: \\SIMS\Network /PERSISTENT:NO >> c:\SIMSINSTALL.log

BDE is only used for FMS??

Are you trying to install Options in satellite mode? What version is your SIMS Infrastructure Setup

    Have you tried:
    start /wait %SETUPS%\SIMSInfrastructureSetup.EXE -a /S {QuietMode} {SIMSWorkstation} {FMSWorkstation} {NoAdobeReader} >> c:\SIMSINSTALL.log

We use SCCM 2007 to deploy SIMS and FMS...as mentioned above you need the BDE for FMS

in a batch file we use to set up permission etc we use

    @ECHO OFF
    SETLOCAL

    SET THISDIR=%~dp0

    regedit.exe /s "%THISDIR%*.reg"
They way we found this was to export the regkey from a working machine...look for

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\SIMS_FMS_ DATABASE]

    and

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources]

The SET THISDIR part is needed to find the distribution point on SCCM but you could just set a unc path etc if you are just network installing
    Hope that helps...

Hmm, well I was only guessing it was the BDE that was missing :s we don't actually need FMS as we don't use it.

I will start from the beginning

Basically our silent install works for SIMS but when running options we get presented with a list (Implementation Manager) which says that:

Warning: Cannot read from 17 implementations

Installing SIMS manually the list comes up OK with no problems, I can see from the stations which have used the silent install that BDE isn't there so was just a hunch I had! :s

SIMSInfrastructureSetup is version 1.560.4.0 (from the details pane of explorer, is that the one you mean?)

Mmm... that's very dodgy, basically when we went to SQL 2008, you updated that file and that's the really old one so I question if you have a valid license. Latest version of the SIMSINF is 5.608.1.0.

    doh

We aren't really in control of what we get as SOLUS is controlled upstream through our LEA. Just raised a call to see if we are on the correct version

Again, I would be really worried as to why you don't have a newer version as you MUST have got it when you did the SQL 2008 migration. Stupid question, you are looking at the right setups directory? They isn't another one lying around? I know we move the setups directory out of the SIMS directory to cut down on the backup sizes.

You might not have had it when you moved to SQL2008 if you installed a full version of SQL rather than the one supplied from capita's setups folder.

I'd try asking the LA to release you all the latest SIMS infrastructure to make sure all that stuff is up to date.

As for installing SIMS silently - why not go down the Solus3 route??

I think this is the route that was taken. I have called our LA and we are behind on the SIMSInfrastructureSetup version compared to their setup dir. Not sure how all this updates?? We cannot go down any SOLUS3 route as our updates come from an upstream SOLUS2 install, and I am guessing from the reactions here that it is as stable as NOVA-T after 72 hours of use......

Can anyone here confirm that they have Options working using the silent installer? From what I can see SIMSInfrastructureSetup if run manually also complains about date formats?? Despite ALL the dates being the correct format!!

It's a general Windows bug, found that happens if you don't reinstall your machine from the OEM build. Basically change it to English US or whatever, save, then change it back to English UK. Sorted.
