    How can I populate a column in a report with text

    I have a report where I need every cell in a particular column to be populated with the same text 'Class Teacher' when the report is run to Excel. How can the report be set up to achieve this?

    If the report is Staff focused, use the "Role" field, pretty sure that says "Class Teacher" for any teacher (although I could be wrong).

    Failing that, how are you with macros?

    No, the report is Student focused. How would you envisage I use macros to achieve the word 'Class Teacher' in every cell of a column in Excel when I run the report?

    Well assuming the the column to the left of the "Class Teacher" column is column A and that it will always contain a value, my pseudo-code would look something like this:

    Code:
    for(x = 1 to 10000)
        if(column(a).row(x).value <> null)
            column(b).row(x).value = "Class Teacher"
        else
            Exit For
        End If
    Next x
    As I say that's pseudo code but if you're OK with VBA you should be able to adapt it to your needs; if not let me know and I'll knock together some actual code when I get chance

    I have had a play with macros, but I can't see how to put the macro within the report itself. Am I missing something? What I need is for the report to produce the wording 'Class Teacher' in every cell of a column without having to do anything in Excel. It is easy enough to just add the wording in Excel, but I want the report to add the wording as it is produced.

    Unfortunately I can't provide you with the SIMs documentation (copyright!), but if you contact your local support team (or Capita if you receive direct support) and ask for the advanced reporting documentation, there is a section on adding macros in to Excel reports that you'll find very useful

    You wouldn't go far wrong to look here : Edit Excel Output

    Also, as a workaround that is easy but a slight faff, is to make an aspect for that data, and add it to every pupil. then just filter that result out into your report. you can easily make a marksheet with whole school and block fill results into the aspect column.
