Question [FMS] - Forgets passwords overnight

Very strange FMS issue here. One of our Academy's yesterday had some old XP machines swapped out for new Win 7 devices. SIMS and FMS was reinstalled, but when trying to log into FMS, none of the logins were were working. Each one returned an invalid username/password message. Except for the 'sysman' account which was working which allowed me to get in and reset all the FMS passwords. I did test them all and they all worked, and the user in school could log in again.

Overnight though, all the passwords have stopped working again. Exact same issue, no logins apart from the 'sysman' account worked, and all return an invalid username/password message. Again, I've logged in using the 'sysman' account and reset all the passwords, and tested them out again - all are working and the user can get into FMS. I am wondering if this issue will happen tomorrow though. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem in FMS, or have any ideas what could be going on?

I wonder if they're backup deattachs the database? Then again that shouldn't matter as the MASTER database hasn't changed. I assume the swapped out machine was just a workstation?

Yea, just a standard Win 7 workstation. We run the backup for them using 'dbattach.exe', the same as in every other school. The only thing about this machine is that it has an SSD in it though I'm sure that makes no difference at all.

Nope. Might be worth checking event viewer and seeing if they're any SQL write delay messages.

No joy there. The only relevant entries are for the failed logins:

Login failed for user 'xxxxxxxxx'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided

    Hey Rawns,

I spoke to your yesterday, I installed the machines ^^

It's an odd issue, I have put a similar machine in another school and it worked perfectly.

Let me know if you need me to go to the school at all and do anything

Welcome to the land of EduGeek mate!

I doubt there will be any need for you to return. If the same thing happens again overnight, it must be some kind of issue with the SQL instance or FMS database. Fingers crossed though it's all working now and will stay that way tomorrow! I'll update the thread when we know.

Edit: I say welcome now, but just noticed you joined March '11! Better late than never!

Not sure if this is the answer but we found that Trusted installers caused lots of issues with FMS when windows 7 first came out. We changed the permissions owner on the C Drive from "Trusted Installers" to "Administrators" and this resolved issues. This might be worth a look.
