13th February 2012, 12:36 PM #16 MSDE was for SQL Server 2000 what SQL Server Express Edition is for the current versions of full blown SQL Server, i.e. a cut down free version with severe restrictions. Capita were using it as the data engine for SIMS by default when I used to have to administer it.
