    SQL2008 Attaching+Restoring Sims Database ERROR

    Hello,

I have just installed a fresh install of SQL 2008 on a new server and when I try to attach a database I get an error (see attachments) and when I try to restore a .bak file I get an error (see attachments).

Anyone have any ideas to help me sort this

    Cheers

Create a new database (rather than attach existing) then run a restore from .bak onto new DB?

run backup on the old srever and attach that as a .bak file (bottom option)

To do this run dbattach with the /restoreui parameter. You can add it to the shortcut for future use

But first, as DT2 said, take the clean database option from the SIMS Clean installer, then restore on top of it.

Have you tried rebooting - [yeah I know], but I've had dbattach failures that a reboot has solved.

Noticed in the screen shot that the dbase option has been selected - it should have been the top option.

Defo the top option. What more info do you get if you click 'details'?
Which installer are you using, i guess Spring 11?
Did the windows / sql installs all go okay?
Actually, i should have said earlier in the other thread, but it's a great time to virtualise, which makes going back to a backup much easier and could save you time when wanting to keep retrying things like now.

You've got an old SIMSINST, I would go back and select the attach database later option, or just close it. Then run dbattach and restore the backup.

@vikpaw you don't need the /restoreui switch anymore, since it went blue it's included as default

Cheers @matt40k - i'm still running spring 11 didn't notice the difference on my test install of autumn though.
I was thinking he had an old setup. The new installer, should help.

Yoiks! You laugh, i'm just glad i've not needed to use it on the live server. Didn't even notice anything on the test one. Just checked, and right you are, a nice shade of blue.
