Does anyone have a server installation guide for SIMS in a PDF format, would like to try setting up as a virtual server on 2008 R2 before moving the old 2003 one across, thanks.

Contact your support team - they should be able to help and its always good to notify them on any planned changes as they have a little bit of warning incase it goes wrong!
Do you use any other software other then the Sims install such as Learning Gateway/Groupcall Exporter Cashless Catering - as most of the time you need them to move these aswell.
Thanks, yes use groupcall too. We use an independant company that said they didnt have any suitable documents they could release. Was hoping someone would have some of the Capita docs or similar if they still exist (used to use Capita a few years back). Was only looking to expirement with it in a non live environment,

I'll see if i can dig out my documents my lea gave me back from last year - although i may have deleted it.
But shouldn't the support company for sims have access to capita's stuff?

Install a vm with windows server.
Add sql.
download an installable iso realease from SupportNet, preferably one for the version you are on. or close enough.
EDIT: run the installer
restore a backup of your live sims onto the test setup.
copy over any files it may need from the old sims share. take over document storage.
upgrade the sims install if needed to match the server version. or upgrade the server depending on what versions you are running.
that's about it really.
caveats - open up the firewall for sql. set permissions carefully on the share. make sure if it's a test setup, it's labelled well, and uses a different mapped drive, docstorage in the sims app is setup and pointing to the corrrect server, not the live one.
good to go.
useful for testing new releases too![]()
