SIMs reports and Macros in Excel
Hi, This is my first time here so apologies in advance.
I have been reading SIMs forums and seeing that people are writing Macro's in Excel within a SIMs report, and I would very much like to be able to do that.
I asked SIMs and was told "The Professional Services team DO NOT have a report writing product. What they can offer is a Consultancy day where a report could be one of the end products, but it is a minimum 1 day consultancy at 1 day consultancy rates."
Someone mentioned an Advanced Training Handbook on here, but I couldn't find it anywhere to download. I really just want to be able to do a little tidying up in Excel with a Behaviour report for example, by putting it into a Pivot table say.
I am not an expert in Excel, but a little better than average.
Hope someone can help.

Thank you so much
, I couldn't reply to your PM as I have to have at least two before I can do that.
I have a nice bit of bed time reading!

I just modified an excel macro that dumps emails to outlook. Was fairly straightforward.
I can't remember what is in the advanced docs.
Is that the document entitled Excel Macro Reporting.doc ?
Not sure what you've got now, but this thread may also be useful, if for nothing else, the examples. Edit Excel Output

Not funky at all, sorry, it was just producing a report with three pivot tables. We have introduced a Uniform Infringement sanction in behaviour through the register and the Year Mangers want to see the list every week as a group, by students and by the teachers issuing them, and I didn't fancy creating the pivot tables every time.
So simple and not as clever as some of the things the rest of you have been doing I am sure, but I can't believe how easy it was in the end. Thank you so much.

1st December 2011, 02:09 PM #8 Doing this is fun and a good show-off tool. It can also be used to strip the date format fix that exports all numbers as text.
I made one for the SLT in charge of attendance and she is clamouring for more.

6th December 2011, 12:00 PM #13 Afternoon all,
Just in case it helps anyone else who is heading down the SIMS macro editing path and can't find the C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\tempRpt\ReportData.xls folder as described in the excellent document linked above (as I couldn't!) I found mine in the My Documents\tempsimsrpt folder on my roaming profile account.
Pandora's box has been well and truly opened.
