Discover - System hangs on transfer
Using Discover for the first time, I've created some Discover aspects. However, after logging in to the configuration utility and clicking "Transfer", the system hangs with the message "Transfer requested - waiting for service". I've left it going all day, but nothing has happened.
What am I doing wrong?

It may say that the Services are running but, at first install, they may not actually be.

29th November 2011, 08:15 PM #3 Check the logs - details in the manual. We found we had set it as the network service (which is the default\recommend), which doesn't exist in Windows Server 2003\XP (doh!) so the service account and SIMS user needs changing to SYSTEM.

Re-installed Discover from scratch - this seemed to do the trick, and all seems to be well now.

I've got Discover installed on a load of XP machines which don't have any issues doing the transfer with it using 'Network Service' So that is not the issue necessarily. I have had this issue in 2 different schools now and the transfer refuses to happen with any of the settings.... A Mystery.

13th January 2012, 12:24 PM #6 Hi guys,
I've just installed discover and am struggling with getting the data to transfer. It has now been saying "Transfer Started" for about 4 hours, which I don't think is right somehow.
I've looked for the transfer log file, but can't find it in app data. We're still on Server 2003. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Pete

13th January 2012, 01:10 PM #7 I was using the Discover Spring 2011 which was giving me the problem I've since used the Discover Autumn 2011 without an issue so far. The schools I had the issues with were all running 7.142 so I suppose it might make sense. I haven't tried it again on one that's previously failed yet.
I have sent a log file to Capita and they replied with:
Thank you for sending in your log file. Please ensure that the versions of SIMS Discover and SIMS.net match, e.g. both are Autumn 2011 release. We do not test all permutations of versions and therefore do not support mismatched installations as we cannot guarantee that they will work.
If you require the installer for Discover, the installation for Discover Autumn 2011 is currently available for download via the following URL;

Delete the url and the password muppet before Capita makes into Capita pens. (If Capita are reading this, I need a new pen please as nasty people keep stealing mine).

13th January 2012, 02:13 PM #10 Right, found the the log file. I was looking for a "transfer" log file. But it is within the Discover.Warehouse.Service.log.
Now I get the message, "Transfer failed! See log file for details".
Getting an error with extra data?!
<message>There was an error transferring the data between the SIMS and Discover databases!</message><exception type="System.ApplicationException" message="Unexpected additional data received having 2 columns with names from region_code to region_name!"><stackTrace> at Discover.Warehouse.TransferAgent.Transferor.TryExe cute()</stackTrace></exception></logItem>

Try using DiscoverAutumn2011-7142.zip off Capita then. As I said above it solved my issues and I had exactly the same error as you got.
