Is there anyway I can track down who last made a data change to a students record for example?
I have never set this up as I have always been very aware that it may cause more problems than it solves!
I suggest you investigate further before using it!
KB95087 - What is Data Change Tracking Management?
The Data Change Tracking Management functionality doesn't expose anything that the end-user can use in a pointy-clicky way. It merely creates a table for API access.
Another reason for me not setting it up then!
I know it's not great, but if you can get it to work, the auditing in system manager, which only shows staff access to certain areas, will give you some idea, and you could narrow down the problem. It wont solve anything for you, but you can at least narrow down who you look at - i.e. those with permission, possibly omit teachers if you don't suspect them, then narrow down the time and method of access. it lets you filter by permission, and access to a certain area, but you'd have to play around with it. It's probably only useful if you already have a suspicion as to who it could be and when, this might provide some backup.
System Manager 6 still has an Access Log that shows the areas users accessed, it doesnt show what they did but you might be able to figure it out if you can narrow it down to who had access at the time the change was made. Its not great, and its pretty slow to build the logs but its better then System Manager 7 so called Access Log, which is practically useless.
